Sports Physiotherapy
Sports Physiotherapy & Performance in Great Glen, Leicestershire
At Byron Health, we bridge the gap between healthcare and performance. Whether you are an amateur runner, a semi-pro rugby player, or a gym enthusiast, our goal is simple. We want to help you improve your performance.
Whether you are recovering from injury, or looking to unlock physical performance and compete in your sport better than before. Based in Great Glen, we support athletes across Leicestershire, including Oadby, Wigston, and Kibworth.
Professional Sports Care for Everyone
Our Sports Physiotherapy & Performance service is led by Will Garvey, a Chartered Physiotherapist with extensive experience in elite sport (Team GB Skeleton & Judo, Leicestershire County Cricket Club and Loughborough Lightning Womens Rugby).
We combine hands-on treatment with the same data-driven rehabilitation protocols used in professional clubs. This means we don’t just guess when you are ready to return to sport. We test, measure, and prove it.
Introducing The Performance Lab
Data-Driven Performance & Recovery with VALD ForceDecks.
Unique to Byron Health is our in-house Performance Lab. Whether you’re recovering from an injury or surgery or your training has plateaued. You may feel okay day-to-day, but not quite match-ready, the Performance Lab can help.
We believe that effective training and rehab requires accurate data. That is why we use VALD ForceDecks—the industry leader in force plate technology—to assess your strength, movement and equilibrium. This allows us to identify the areas that have become weak and unearth any underlying causes to potential injuries. This data then allows us to construct tailored training / rehab plans to your needs.
The Performance Lab has two leading services:
1. Performance
You might not be injured, but just feel like you need some fine-tuning or expert guidance along your training journey.
We will test key performance metrics for your sport and put together tailored training plans to get you performing at your absolute best.
2. Sports Physiotherapy & Recovery
We manage both acute trauma and long-standing “niggles” that hold you back.
- Acute Injuries: Ankle sprains, muscle tears (hamstring/calf), and ligament injuries.
- Chronic Pain: Recurring lower back pain, Achilles tendinopathy, and groin pain.
- Post-Surgical Rehab: ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, and shoulder stabilisation.
- Overuse Injuries: Runner’s knee, shin splints, and tennis elbow.
Who We Work With
- Field Sports: Rugby, football, hockey, and netball players requiring pitch-ready fitness.
- Endurance Athletes: Runners, cyclists, and triathletes focused on efficiency and injury prevention.
- Combat Sports: Martial artists needing power and stability.
- Young Athletes: Scholarship and academy-level juniors who need safe, age-appropriate guidance.
- Gym Enthusiasts: CrossFitters and Hyrox competitors looking to improve their numbers safely.
What Happens in a Performance Lab Session?
The human eye can miss subtle imbalances, but data doesn’t. We use dual force plates and dynamometry to get accurate stats which guide your journey.
Based on your results the next step is to prescribe a tailored plan for you to address the areas identified as needing focus. We will then support you through your journey with monitoring and training progression.
How does this help?
- Identify Asymmetry: We can see if one leg is working differently to the other, often the hidden cause of inconsistent performance or recurring injury.
- Track Progress: We don't just ask if you feel stronger. We measure it, with either our force decks or ActivForce dynamometry.
- Precision Planning: whether you feel like you’ve hit a plateau, or just want to optimise your training, our Strength & Conditioning plans use data to specifically address what you need to focus on to optimise your training and performance.
- Return to Sport with Confidence: We use objective data to determine if you are physically ready to get back on the pitch or track, significantly reducing the risk of re-injury.
